Queen of Country pop, Eilleen Regina, famously known as Shania Twain, is a well-known Canadian singer and songwriter.

‘The Woman In Me’ singer has sold over 100 million records; her empowering anthems like ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’ are still one of a female artist’s best-selling albums. 

Shania is one of the best-selling female artists in country music and has successfully accolades several awards titles, including Grammy awards for Best Country Song, Billboard Music Award, People’s Choice Awards, and the list goes on; she has won 215 awards throughout her career.

Shania Twain Early Life 

Shania was born on 28 August 1965 in Windsor, Ontario, To Sharon and Clarence Edwards. Shania also has two sisters named Jill and Carrie Anna.

Shania’s childhood was very stormy and full of ups and downs; when she was just two years old, her parents got divorced, and her mother moved to Timmins, Ontario, along with Shania and her two sisters. Sharon later married Jerry Twain and had a son named Mark. Jerry legally changed the girls’ surnames to Twain after adopting them.

Shania went to Timmins High and Vocational School; since childhood, she had developed an exceptional singing voice, and by the young age of eight, she started performing in local clubs to put food on the table. 

According to Shania, she suffered from life difficulties from an early age; her parents earned very little money, and food was often scanty in their house. Shania’s mother and stepfather’s marriage was stormy and a nightmare for her, and from an early age, she witnessed violence and fights between them. Shani’s mother also suffered from depression.

Shania started singing at a young age at local bars and often earned between $20 at midnight, but she hated to go into bars and sing among alcoholic people, but her deepest passion, singing, saved her and kept her surviving. 

Her love for singing stars aroused her to fame, and at the age of 13, she was invited to perform on the CBC’s Tommy Hunter Show.

In the early 1980s, Shania spent some time working with her father’s reforestation business in Northern Ontario, which employed 75 Ojibwe and Cree workers; although the work was very demanding with the less pay, but she loved the work and was not afraid to be in her own environment.

After graduating from high school in 1983, she joined a band called  Flirt and toured all over Ontario with them. Moreover, she also started taking singing lessons from a Toronto-based coach Ian Garrett.

Tragic Death Of Her Parents

In November 1987, Shania both parents died in a car accident. The couple reportedly were heading towards their jobs when a truck carrying timber crossed into their lane and collided with them. 

After that tragic accident, Shania had to take care of younger siblings, and for some time, her dreams of becoming a singer faded away. 

Career 

Shania released her debut solo self-titled album in 1993, and while it did not sell well, Shania received a lot of praise from critics, and this is when her net worth began to grow.

She released her second album, “The Woman in Me,” in 1995, and it was a huge success. Shania has released three more studio albums over the years, all of which have sold around 40 million copies worldwide. Due to this disease, she didn’t make any records or songs for 15 years. She only recovered after open throat surgery; (laryngoplasty), an operation to reconstruct the vocal box. A two-inch horizontal scar runs across her neck.

In 2017 she made a comeback and released a new song, Who’s Gonna Be Your Girl? – a mournful ballad that reflects on the breakdown of her marriage.

Twain married twice; she first married Robert Mutt Lange for over a decade, and they had a son together. Robert Mutt was Shania’s long-time manager; the couple broke up in 2008 when Mutt reportedly confessed to cheating with Shania’s best friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud.

Marrie was hired by Mutt as Shania’s assistant, but she quickly became Shania’s best friend. Shanian was shocked and devastated at the time of her divorce.

Twain also wrote to Marie and asked her why she did that.

But this drama didn’t end up here. She was heartbroken, and only one person could understand how she was feeling, and that was Marie Anne’s husband, Frederic Thiebaud.

They both supported each other in tough times and eventually formed an unexpected romance, and in 2009, just after a year, Shania’s marriage fell apart; she let her fans know that her love life was beginning once again.

In 2011 they made their love official, and Shania and Frederic tied the knot in Puerto Rico.
